SECURITY ADVISORY IN PREPARATION FOR THE COMING PROTEST

30th July, 2024

Dear Esteemed Clients,

SECURITY ADVISORY IN PREPARATION FOR THE COMING PROTEST

As the August 1st Protest draws close, we advise the general public to maintain safety precautions, and eschew violent and disorderly behaviours. Protests like these may experience possible hijack which may escalate into violence and wanton vandalizing of properties.

To the general public, we advise;

1) Before the Protest:

  • Stay Informed: Keep up to date with news about the protest. Understand the objectives, routes, and meeting points, and be aware of any potential risks or previous incidents at similar events.
  • Plan your route: Know your way to and from the protest site. Identify multiple exit routes in case of emergency and try to avoid isolated areas.
  • Communicate Your Plans: Inform family or friends about your plans.
  • Prepare an Emergency Kit: Carry essentials such as water, snacks, a first aid kit, any necessary medications, and identification. Include items like a power bank for your phone and cash.

2) During the Protest:

  • Stay with the Crowd: Avoid getting separated from the main group and stay alert to the movements of the crowd and potential signs of escalation.
  • Maintain Communication: Keep your phone charged and in a secure place. Use messaging apps with end-to-end encryption for sensitive communication.
  • Avoid Confrontation: Stay calm and avoid engaging in aggressive behaviour. If confronted by law enforcement, remain non-confrontational and comply with lawful orders.
  • Know Your Rights: Be aware of your rights to protest and any local laws that may apply.

3) In case of emergency:
• First Aid: Know basic first aid techniques for common injuries. Assist others if you are able to do so safely.
• Escape Plan: Move to a safer location if the situation becomes violent. Use your pre-identified exit routes.
• Document Incidents: If safe to do so, document any incidents of violence or unlawful behaviour. Record details such as badge numbers, names, and actions.
